The International Service Committee invite you to join them on a visit to Reims, in the Champagne-Ardenne region of France, to coincide with this year’s annual Christmas Market.

Dates:    11th December to 14th December 2009

Provisional Programme:

Friday, 11th December Travel to Reims to arrive early evening
Saturday 12th December Day at large in Reims to visit Christmas Market or other attractions.
Sunday, 13th  December Morning – at large
Afternoon – Visit to Champagne Mercier, in nearby Epernay

Travel:

On this occasion travel arrangements will be at the discretion of the participants. We would expect most people to drive. Thetford to Reims is approximately 330 miles, via Dover, and Reims itself is approximately 21/2 hours easy drive from Calais on motorways. Route maps and directions will be provided for drivers and navigators. You should allow at least 21/2 hours to drive from Thetford  to Dover and check in for the ferry

Participants will need to organise their own crossing of the English Channel. The best rates available are by online booking and contact addresses for the main cross Channel operators are as follows

Eurotunne www.eurotunnel.com
P & O Ferries www.po-ferries-uk.co.uk
Sea France www.seafrance.com
LD Lines www.ldlines.com
(Seacat fast ferry between Dover & Boulogne)

Accomodation

The Hotel of choice is the Mercure Reims Centre Cathedrale

This is a three star hotel picked for it’s proximity to both the motorway and the city centre and the availability of on site parking. It is within 7 to 10 minutes walk of the Cathedral and city centre area where the market takes place.

Hotel rooms in Reims for this period are now becoming scarce, but we have secured an allocation of  up to 10 double rooms at this hotel at a special group rate of 116 euros per room per night. Buffet breakfast is 16 euros per person, and the hotel restaurant will provide a three course meal with wine for 40 euros per person.
