President's Address 2007

I would like to thank you all for your support during this year especially the members of the Club Council and the two Area delegates.

I would like to thank Mary and Janey for keeping the records, books and me in order.

Jackie for her exceptional work as Overseas and Community Chair with the superb events she has organised raising an amazing amount for our chosen charities at home and overseas.

I would like to thank Carol for her organisation of our meetings, collecting the money at every meeting and ensuring we had a regular raffle which helps to keep our funds on the straight and narrow.

Liz I would like to thank you for getting us into print regularly and taking pictures to mark our varied life throughout this year  .

I am also delighted to have been able to welcome Cecelia, Karen and Gill who have joined Inner Wheel this year. I wish them a very happy time with us next year.

Jenny started my year in June at the handover. The next event was a luncheon at Wretham in July, the sun shone and good company and food made it a very pleasant way to spend Sunday.

I have been able to attend all the Inner Wheel District Meetings in a variety of places, Lynford Hall, Park Hotel  Diss, Mildenhall College, and Wortwell Community Centre. At all these meetings I have been accompanied by various of our members who have ensured that we all had a good day out and participated in District Inner Wheel.

District Chairman Nancy Briggs visited us in October when she encouraged us to “Fly the Flag for Inner Wheel”, and also to look at how we can encourage new members to join Inner Wheel.

Our speakers have included Isobel Coe from KMAC, a Medieval soldier, Kate Phillips a very talented potter, David West from EACH, Birthday Supper with Margaret Sims Hats Franciose –what a lot of glamorous ladies we had in the hats, and finally a visit to the refurbished Ancient House Museum.

We have also had a range of functions to raise funds for charity including Beetle Drive, Macmillan Coffee Morning, Bric-a-Brac stall, cake Stall and the superb “Candlelight Supper with Dramatic Interludes” evenings.

Our last venture was last Wednesday when we travelled to Kew Gardens for the day. I enjoyed it very much despite the rain and from the reports I have had so did every one else. If you look at the Rotary website you will see some fabulous pictures taken by some of our members and their husbands.

I would also like to thank Thetford Rotary Club for all their help to Inner Wheel this year - they have manned bars, moved furniture and generally helped us in all our functions. It was very good to have Rotary President Richard at our Birthday supper; I look forward to our mutual working together continuing next year.

Lastly I would like to thank Jenny for her support and I would like to thank all of you for helping to make this a very successful year for Thetford Inner Wheel.
